It's going to be hot and humid. And the crowd will be pro-El Salvador at kickoff. But by the time the final whistle comes, this confident bunch of Yanks (In Klinsi, They Trust) will have turned the crowd – and the screws.

I'm ready for more bunker ball from another opponent. But now Jurgen Klinsmann has an actual weapon who's built to rumble in the attacking third: Eddie Johnson. Silencio, aficionados Salvadoreños.

The US had no mercy with their previous opponents, and against El Salvador it will be the same. Los Cuscatlecos struggled to get to the quarterfinals; they had good moments, but were still not solid in attack. They'll have to play top-class defense against the USMNT, but that won’t be enough to stop an attack empowered by recent results.

Just like Costa Rica, El Salvador will sit deep, play defense first and rely on defensive rotations to shut down the US attack. They just don't have the horses to do it as well as the Ticos.

Rodolfo Zelaya looks MLS ready, but the USMNT still has the upper hand at every spot on the field. They're also used to bunker ball by now, and the heat won't leave El Salvador with anywhere to hide. The hosts will grind them down, then grab the goals necessary to move onto the semis.

The US will have their hands full playing in what is essentially an away game. However, their superior quality and fitness level should see them through to the semifinals, though not without a hiccup or two on the way.

For El Salvador to really threaten the US defense, they'd need the game to open up. If that happens, the US would outclass them. I expect them instead to follow Costa Rica's lead and go defense first ... and second. It won't work for them, either.

El Salvador practically be playing at home. They struggled to advance from the group stage, which was a bit surprising because of the enjoyable football they practice. No matter, the US will prevail, scoring first but then hitting an alarm button as the Cuscatlecos tie the game before the winning goal arrives in the final minutes of the match.
