Chivas USA acquire center back, Los Angeles native Jaime Frias on loan from Guadalajara
Retooling Chivas USA are still making moves, announcing on Thursday that they have acquired central defender and Los Angeles native Jaime Frias Jr. on loan from sister club CD Guadalajara.
The 20-year-old defender is a product of Guadalajara’s youth academy, where he has featured prominently at the U-17 and U-20 levels.
Most recently, he served as captain for Chivas' U-20 side, which won the 2013 league title under newly installed Chivas USA assistant coach Marco Fabián Vázquez. Frias also won a championship with Chivas' third-division team during the 2009-10 season.
Frias has also spent time with Guadalajara’s first team, competing in inter-squad matches and training sessions, under the guidance of Dutch coach John van’t Schip and most recently under current Chivas head coach Benjamín Galindo.
The center back will be eligible to play for Chivas USA in their next match on July 28 at Seattle. Per Major League Soccer and club policies, details of the transaction will not be disclosed.
