AMSTERDAM – Birmingham City handyman Jonathan Spector is set for an undetermined spell on the sidelines after suffering facial fractures near the end of last Wednesday's friendly loss against MK Dons in Ireland.

Mere seconds from the final whistle, the US international took an accidental knee to the face while going to ground for a challenge. Spector will see a specialist early in the week, at which time the club will learn how long they will be missing his services.

"He's got five separate hairline fractures in his cheekbone area, under the eye," Birmingham press officer Andy Walker told MLSsoccer.com. "In the next days, we'll find out if he needs surgery. That will determine the length of time he'll be out."

Meanwhile, the medical news was better for Brums teammate Will Packwood, who is busy recovering from a broken fibula and tibia suffered in January.

"He's still on track," Walker said. "The start of the season will probably come too soon, but his rehab is going as well as possible."

Likely without the American duo, Birmingham will open the new Championship season with an August 3 visit from Watford.
