Back to the pipeline: FC Dallas sign US U-20 Danny Garcia to Homegrown deal
FC Dallas have signed another talented product of their academy's impressive assembly line, announcing on Tuesday that they've inked US Under-20 national team midfielder Danny Garcia to a Homegrown contract.
"We are really excited to have yet another one of our Homegrown players sign with FC Dallas," said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman in a statement. "Danny Garcia is a very talented player. Watching him three years ago, we all knew he had a lot of potential. He has played a few matches with our reserve team, where he has done well.
“He has trained a number of times with our first team and now he is part of the US Under-20 team competing at the World Cup. He is a talented left-sided player who will have plenty of opportunities to help FC Dallas find success."
A 5-foot-5, 140-pound. left-footer, Garcia helped FCD win the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's U-17/18 championship a year ago and was one of the top youth prospects in the nation when he began his NCAA college career at North Carolina last year.
He went on to win ACC Freshman of the Year honors after notching four goals and six assists for the Tar Heels. He is currently with Tab Ramos' young Yanks side as they prepare for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
A graduate of W.T. White High School in Dallas, Garcia is FCD's 11th Homegrown player.
He and the rest of the US U-20s begin their World Cup quest against Spain on Friday at Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul (1:45 pm ET, ESPN2 and WatchESPN).
Their daunting Group A schedule continues against France on June 24 game against France (10:45 am ET, ESPN2 and WatchESPN) and concludes on June 27 against Ghana at Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri, Turkey (12:45 pm ET, ESPNU and WatchESPN).
