Castrol Index Weekly Top 20: New England Revolution's Diego Fagundez all grown up

Fagundez - Castrol

This was a banner week for the kids. And one of the very youngest was the very best.

New England Revolution Homegrown attacker Diego Fagundez is just 18 years old, but he is already in his third full year as a pro. And his game against the Red Bulls on Saturday was probably the best of his career – and good enough to put him at the top of the Castrol Index Weekly Top 20.

Fagundez has found a home wide in the midfield in Jay Heaps' 4-1-4-1, and his late runs into the box have proven troublesome for backpedaling defenses. He netted one goal from close range in the teams' 1-1 draw, and could have had another late on.

A striker at the other end of the spectrum joined Fagundez near the top, as Thierry Henry rode his point-blank tap-in and spectacular bicycle kick to the No. 2 spot in the rankings. Henry was the inspiration behind New York's 2-1 midweek win over the Montreal Impact, but missed out on his team's trip to New England for the weekender.

Another DP, Portland playmaker Diego Valeri, pulled in at the No. 3 spot thanks to an all-around dominant performance in his team's 3-0 win over Chivas USA. The Timbers remain one of the hottest teams in the league, and haven't lost since March.

Will Bruin took home the MLS Player of the Week award largely for his two goals and two assists midweek vs. D.C. United, good enough for the No. 4 spot. Seattle goalkeeper Michael Gspurning's second shutout of the week – 4-0 over San Jose on Saturday – put him at No. 5.
