The LA Galaxy have narrowed their search for a third Designated Player to a single target and the announcement could come any week now.

In Saturday night's NBC Sports Network broadcast of the 1-0 victory by FC Dallas over the defending champions, play-by-play man Arlo White revealed details of a conversation with LA head coach Bruce Arena on the club's next DP.

"Really interesting talking to Bruce Arena yesterday," White explained at the start of the second half. "We asked him about the possibility and timeframe of a Designated Player ... and he said it should be finalized in the next couple of weeks. Perhaps early May.

"We couldn't get any more information out of him. … He said it's down to one. And I asked him have both parties agreed and he said, 'I know one of us has.' So they're waiting for the word."

The May timetable could mean that the player in question is currently plying his trade in one of the European leagues which typically come to a close during the month. In recent months, the Galaxy have been linked with the likes of Chelsea's Frank Lampard and Real Madrid's Kaká.

Another DP signing would take the Galaxy to the maximum three allowed by league rules. Captain Landon Donovan and forward Robbie Keane are the two current DPs on the roster. The third space has been vacant since David Beckham's departure.
