Castrol Index Weekly Top 20: Donovan Ricketts rises to the top for Portland Timbers

Donovan Ricketts' performance against the Houston Dynamo in Portland's 2-0 win on Saturday doesn't exactly jump off the stats sheet. It didn't captivate audiences or grab headlines, either.

Instead, it did exactly what Ricketts was brought to Portland to do in the first place: It locked down three points for the home side.

Ricketts wasn't spectactular, and he largely didn't have to be in Portland's win, their first of the season and the first of the Caleb Porter era. Along with the victory, he finds himself at the top top of the Castrol Index Weekly Top 20 for Week 6. Teammate Ryan Johnson, who earned the MLS Player of the Week nod thanks to his two second-half goals, came in at No. 3.

A 'keeper who was unquestionably spectacular claimed the No. 2 spot for another team that got their first win of the season. Clint Irwin stopped an Álvaro Saborío penalty and produced a handful of other breathtaking moments as the Colorado Rapids topped visiting Real Salt Lake, 1-0. Irwin, who came on for injured starter Matt Pickens last month, has locked down the starting job in Colorado for the foreseeable future thanks to a series of strong performances.

Philadelphia Union youngster Jack McInerney scored his third goal and nearly set up another in the second half of his team's 1-1 draw at Columbus, and earned the No. 4 spot. Veteran Panamanian forward Blaz Pérez rounded out the top five thanks to his strong effort in FC Dallas' 2-2 draw at Toronto. See how players collect points in the Castrol methodology here.

Chicago, who like Portland and Colorado got their first win of the season on the weekend, placed three players in the Top 20. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson joined fellow fraternity members Ricketts and Irwin at No. 7; Maicon Santos was No. 8 thanks to his two goals, and midfielder Daniel Paladini's productive shift was enough for the No. 11 spot.
