American Exports: Charles Kazlauskas, Conor O'Brien star in Friday European action
AMSTERDAM – A handful of Americans suited up overseas on Friday, with Charles Kazlauskas scoring the opener and earning the penalty kick for Helmond Sport's 2-1 winner against 10-man derby rivals FC Eindhoven.
Kazlauskas (above, in red) buried a back post feed to break the ice in the 50th minute, ringing up his fourth goal of the season. Only two minutes later, he drew a red card foul in the area and Helmond top scorer Emrullah Güvenc deposited the ensuing penalty kick.
The hosts climbed to fourth place, one point off the Dutch second-flight title pace.
To the north in Denmark, Conor O'Brien went the distance as FC Nordsjælland reclaimed second place with a 4-2 victory over guests AGF Aarhus. The Wild Tigers ran their Farum Park unbeaten streak to 18 games to take possession of the Superliga's second Champions League slot.
Over in England's Championship, Conor Doyle went unused in Derby County's 3-0 win over Bristol City and Zak Whitbread did likewise as Leicester City fell 1-0 to his former employers, Millwall.
