Kicking the tires? Chicago Fire noncommittal on talks surrounding former defender Bakary Soumare
“I just want to go somewhere now where I feel wanted and needed,” Soumaré, who lives in Chicago in the offseason, told Philly Soccer Page on Tuesday. “Whether it’s Chicago or somewhere else, I don’t care. I don’t have the luxury now to pick where I play. I just want to play.”
The Fire backline has suffered a rash of injuries to start the season, and center back Arne Friedrich recently left the team to rehab his hamstring injury in Germany.
But with Friedrich set to return to his spot alongside 2012 Rookie of the Year Austin Berry in the next few weeks, it doesn't appear Soumaré is in the Fire's immediate plans.
“With the salary cap, what teams want from players, it's not always so easy,” Chicago manager Frank Klopas told MLSsoccer.com. “I know Baky very well, he spent a long time here. I saw that. It's great because you know when you treat them in the right way, they know this is always their team. It's great, but there's always a lot of implications. You look into every situation for sure.”
