MLS Fantasy: Unlikely candidates fight their way on the Dream Team in Round 2

MLS Fantasy Soccer: Manager got off to a rather unpredictable start in Round 2 with Toronto FC’s Robert Earnshaw (12 points) scoring a brace at home against Sporting KC. His two goals came within the first 21 minutes of play and were enough to earn him top player honors in the Dream Team this week.

Round 2 Statistics

  • Most captained player  – Chris Wondolowski (3,893 teams)
  • 21 goals, two teams w/clean sheets
  • Transfers made: 25,330
  • Wildcards played: 1,147

There were 24 goals scored in Round 1, but with Seattle, LA and Houston all on byes due to midweek CCL action, Round 2 resulted in a more defensive Dream Team formation. This is somewhat surprising given the fact that there were seven teams with clean sheets in Week 1 compared to just two in Week 2.

Dream Team Formation (5-3-2)

Forwards (2)

Robert Earnshaw was owned by 0.8 percent of the league before his 12-point outing in Round 2. In the past two days he’s shot up to 2.5 percent. Still thinking about adding him? At $7.5m it’s definitely something you should consider. Chivas USA and USMNT hopeful Juan Agudelo made his Dream Team debut by netting this nice equalizer in his team’s 3-1 victory over FC Dallas.

Midfielders (3)

Sporting KC’s Graham Zusi is the only player to make the Dream Team in back-to-back weeks. He’s currently owned by a league-leading 37.5 percent of teams and his price has risen to $9.7m over the past few days. Amobi Okugo (Philadelphia) and Edgar Mejía (Chivas) were surprises here, but both played key roles in their teams’ victories.

Defenders (5)

D.C. United were one of just two teams to notch clean sheets this weekend with the New England Revolution being the other. Montreal’s Hassoun Camara was the only defender on the Dream Team not to log a clean sheet this weekend, but his go-ahead bicycle kick against the Portland Timbers certainly made up for it.

Goalkeeper – Matt Reis (New England Revolution)

Second straight goalkeeper to go on the road and grab a clean sheet. His 10 points were tied for second best among all dream-teamers.

Rian Sinaga (PS Portland Jiors) was the top scorer this week with 78 points. Join the MLS ExtraTime Radio league and others to win weekly prizes.
