LA Galaxy come to terms with SuperDraft picks Charlie Rugg & Greg Cochrane
The LA Galaxy just got a little younger and a lot faster. On Saturday, the current MLS Cup holders announced the signing of 2013 SuperDraft picks Charlie Rugg and Greg Cochrane.
Per club and league policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
The 19th overall pick, Rugg played four years at Boston College, where he was a three-time All-ACC First Team selection, scoring 28 goals and 18 assists in 76 games.
The 22-year-old native of Roslindale, Mass., returned from a groin strain suffered in preseason and began training with the Galaxy in early February. He made his preseason debut on February 13, subbing on and using his speed and quickness to score twice in a 7-2 win over UCLA.
Cochrane, 22, was selected with the 38th and final pick in the SuperDraft. Fast and hard-working, the University of Louisville came off the bench in all seven of LA’s preseason games, playing on the left-side of midfield and scoring once.
Before joining the Galaxy, he played two seasons at Virginia Tech before transferring to Louisville ahead of the start of his junior season. He started all 44 games that he played for the Cardinals, scoring six goals and adding five assists while helping his team reach the NCAA quarterfinals twice.
