American Exports: Bradley, Roma inch towards cup final
AMSTERDAM – Michael Bradley put on a fine all-around display in midweek Coppa Italia play on Wednesday, helping AS Roma put one foot in the final with a 2-1 first-leg victory over visitors Inter Milan.
The US midfielder took part in the construction of both Giallorossi tallies, and probably should have notched a first-half assist when Erik Lamela wasted a terrific through ball from the No. 4 shirt. On the night, no player from either side completed more passes than Bradley's 44.
Roma are now undefeated in their last six matches against Inter. The teams will reunite at San Siro to conclude their semifinal tie on April 17.
Over in Turkish Cup group play, Maurice Edu was perhaps Bursaspor's top player in a 3-0 loss at Fenerbahçe.
Despite the lopsided result, the midfielder drew raves from the local media after a strong all-around showing. Edu could have logged an assist near time, but the created chance was saved by the goalkeeper.
With two games remaining on the Group A slate, Bursaspor now stand four points adrift of second place Sivasspor, who they'll host on closing day. First, however, they must visit second-flight 1461 Trabzon on Jan. 29.
