AMSTERDAM – Tim Howard and Everton missed the chance to climb into third place in the English Premier League on Sunday, falling 2-1 to visiting Chelsea on a comeback double by Frank Lampard.

The US netminder made three big saves, but the rebound of his last one was punched home by Lampard with 18 minutes left to put the Blues ahead in a game at Goodison Park for the first time in 397 series minutes. The goal play saw Howard's second strong denial of Juan Mata in the match, and he also foiled Fernando Torres while the game was tied.

Disappointed by the lost lead and two subsequent shots against the woodwork from Nikica Jelavić, Everton surrendered a late lead at home for the third time this season. The sixth place Toffees also waved goodbye to a six-game EPL unbeaten run, as well as one of 14 overall contests at Goodison.
