American Exports: Lichaj helps Aston Villa top Man City

AMSTERDAM – A handful of Americans clocked in across the pond on Tuesday, with Eric Lichaj hopping off the bench to help Aston Villa knock home side Manchester City out of the Capital One Cup in extra time by a 4-2 count.

The US international entered as an injury substitution with the game tied 2-2 in the 86th minute. Having rallied to tie twice during regulation, the Villans won the day on extra time strikes by  Charles N'Zogbia and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Starting netminder Brad Guzan stepped aside for the night, with Shay Given taking up his former cup duties. The draw for the fourth round will take place after Wednesday's five tilts conclude.

Meanwhile, Tim Howard watched from the dugout as Everton bowed out of the draw with a 2-1 loss at Leeds United.

In Danish DBU Pokalen action, Charlie Davies went the distance up front as Randers FC advanced to the round of 16 with a 2-1 victory at second-flight Næstved.

South of the border in Germany's 2.Bundesliga, on-loan attacker Joseph Gyau made his St. Pauli debut, coming on at halftime of a 1-0 home loss to Aalen. In suffering their first league loss at the Millerntor since last October, the Pirates slipped to 13th place.

Andrew Wooten went unused in Sandhausen's 2-1 home loss to Jahn Regensburg.
