Report: Chivas USA dismiss GM Jose Domene

Less than 24 hours after Jorge Vergara and Angélica Fuentes acquired complete ownership of Chivas USA, they may already be on the search for a new GM.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting on Thursday that 32-year-old GM Jose Domene has been dismissed by the club. Chivas USA have not commented on the report.

On Wednesday, Vergara and Fuentes, who are also owners of famed Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico, acquired the 50 percent stake in the club they did not own from brothers Antonio and Lorenzo Cué. The two groups had served as joint co-owners since investing in the club as an expansion team before the 2005 MLS season.

The newspaper speculates that José Luis Real, a former Chivas de Guadalajara manager and youth academy director, is a potential candidate.

Domene assumed GM responsibilities in December 2010, taking over for longtime league executive Stephen Hamilton.

Along with the Cué brothers, who managed day-to-day operations of Chivas USA through Wednesday, Domene hired current Chivas USA manager Robin Fraser and helped orchestrate several major in-season player transactions including the acquisitions of Juan Agudelo, Danny Califf and Shalrie Joseph.

Chivas USA earned a 3-3 draw at the New England Revolution on Wednesday night and find themselves nine points out of the fifth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 10 matches remaining.

The Goats travel to face the league-leading San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, Sept. 2 (9 pm ET, NBCSN, live chat on MLSsoccer.com).
