'Caps Robson suspended for dissent, out vs. Seattle
Vancouver will take the field Saturday afternoon in Seattle attempting to gain ground in the Western Conference playoff race. They'll do so without Designated Player Barry Robson.
On Saturday morning, the MLS Disciplinary Committee announced that Robson had been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for aggravated dissent. The incident occurred at the very end of Wednesday's 2-0 home loss to FC Dallas.
Robson will serve the suspension today against Seattle (4 pm ET, TSN2/RDS in Canada, streamed on MLS LIVE in US).
"Vancouver was made aware that the incident was under review on Thursday morning," said MLS Executive Vice President Nelson Rodriguez. "All of the gathered evidence was only available to the Disciplinary Committee as of midday on Friday. Logistical and personal issues kept the Committee from convening in its normal manner which unfortunately delayed the final decision.
"Though Vancouver was informed of the suspension yesterday evening, the Whitecaps were kept apprised of the situation and the possibility of a suspension throughout the process."
Rodriguez added: "We intend to work with the MLS Players Union to see if an expedited process can be agreed upon in similar circumstances in the future."
