RSL acquire forward Braun from Montreal for '14 draft pick
Justin Braun is on the move again.
The 25-year-old Impact forward – who played in 12 games this season for Montreal, but had yet to find his name in the score column – was traded Wednesday to Real Salt Lake for a conditional 2014 MLS SuperDraft pick.
“We want to thank Justin for the services he rendered here with Montreal," Impact sporting director Nick De Santis said in a press release. "He always managed and handled himself in the best professional way and was very committed towards the team. We wish him the best with Real Salt Lake."
The Impact acquired Braun from Chivas USA last November along with Gerson Mayen in exchange for defender James Riley and allocation money. He left the Rojiblancos as the club’s second all-time leading scorer with 24 goals, including 17 in his final two seasons.
The Salt Lake City native will be heading home to join the Western Conference’s second-place team and becomes RSL's third signing in the last few weeks. Kwame Watson-Siriboe joined Jason Kreis’ side from Chicago on June 27 in exchange for a fourth-round SuperDraft pick in 2014, while Kenny Mansally signed on in the third week of June after being released by New England.
Braun will wear No. 13 for Real Salt Lake and will compete with Paulo Jr. and Emiliano Bonfigli for the third forward position in the depth chart. He will travel to San Jose this Saturday and is available immediately for selection.
