SJ's Wondolowski wins another Player of the Month award
At this rate, San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski could do the double come November.
The MLS Golden Boot leader was voted by media for the second time this season as the Player of the Month after registering three game-winning goals in three league matches during the month of June, which started with his participation in US national team camp for World Cup qualifying.
He returned to lead his team to the top of the Western Conference with road victories in Colorado (adding a 92nd-minute game-winner) and Salt Lake (an 84th-minute clincher) and a thrilling 4-3 win over the defending champion LA Galaxy in which he registered the goal that turned into the game-winner with a spectacular back-heel flick in the 61st minute.
Wondo, who has 14 goals on the season, also captured the award in April. This time he beat out another hot goalscorer, Toronto FC's Danny Koevermans, with 10 of 22 first-place votes. Also receiving consideration from the media were forwards Chris Pontius (D.C. United), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy) and goalkeeper Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire).
The San Jose Earthquakes currently own the best record in MLS (36 points) and this weekend travel to face Western Conference bottom-dwellers FC Dallas on Saturday.
