American Exports: Davies on his way out of Sochaux
AMSTERDAM — Sochaux forward Charlie Davies is on the verge of a mutually agreed release from his contract, MLSsoccer.com has learned.
The 26-year-old newlywed will break his bond with Les Lionceaux one year early, having appeared just twice with the first team since suffering multiple serious injuries in an October 2009 car accident. After returning from an 11-goal loan season with D.C. United in January, Davies made those two sub appearances in Ligue 1 play, while scoring once in 11 outings for Sochaux II.
Tuesday's edition of regional newspaper L'Est Républicain claimed that Davies was set to move to Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar, but Cheese Farmers technical director Earnie Stewart recently told MLSsoccer.com that they were not chasing the player.
Meanwhile, Davies rep Lyle Yorks says there are actual negotiations in process to find his next employer, which will also be situated across the pond.
"Charlie will probably be making a decision in the next seven to 10 days," Yorks told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "We're speaking to several clubs in Europe."
