Marosevic back training with Toronto, but he's not staying
TORONTO – Forward Peri Marosevic is back with Toronto FC – sort of.
The former TFC forward has been training with the Toronto FC Academy as a courtesy as he looks for a team. He helped himself by scoring a goal in Toronto FC's 4-3 loss at D.C. United in Reserve League action last weekend.
Toronto FC head coach and director of soccer operations Paul Mariner told MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday that there is no room on the Reds roster at the moment to bring Marosevic back.
“We’re doing him a favor [by letting him train],” Mariner said.
Mariner said it was something he was glad to do for the 23-year-old, who played with the second half of last season with TFC.
“He’s a smashing fellow,” Mariner said.
Marosevic scored two league goals (against Portland and D.C.) in seven matches for Toronto. In the CONCACAF Champions League, he made seven more appearances, scoring against Mexican side Pumas UNAM at BMO Field.
He saw limited duty with FC Dallas from 2009-11 and after he was granted his release Toronto signed him on July 28, 2011. He was offered a contract to stay with Toronto FC in the MLS offseason but turned it down and tried his luck in Europe.
