One thing is for sure: Marco Di Vaio will not be playing in Bologna next season.

The Italian forward confirmed on Friday morning that he will be leaving the club following the last two matchdays of the Serie A season, and that the Montreal Impact have made him an offer for a one-and-a-half year deal.

“I told [Bologna head coach Stefano] Pioli on Wednesday,” Di Vaio told the Italian press. “The president tried to convince me to stay, but I have reached a decision.”

The 35-year-old Di Vaio has scored more than 130 goals over an 18-year career in Serie A, and leads Bologna in scoring this season with 10 strikes.

Impact sporting director Nick De Santis addressed the former Italian international’s comments during a conference call on Friday morning and said the club was pleased to hear that the Impact are in consideration for the player’s next career move.

De Santis also confirmed that the offer for a one-year-and-a-half deal, with an option for two more seasons, was made to Di Vaio during the February trip to Europe which led to Matteo Ferrari signing with the club.

“The next step is he’ll come and meet us with his family in May,” De Santis said. “He’ll see what the city and the club here are like. … He’ll finish the season with Bologna and visit us somewhere between May 25 and May 30.”
