American Exports: Wooten re-ups with Kaiserslautern
AMSTERDAM – Young Kaiserslautern forward Andrew Wooten has spurned the open market to sign a fresh three-year deal with the relegated club.
The US Under-23 striker was set to run out of contract this summer and had several potential suitors waiting in the top two German flights. Instead of testing the waters, he put pen to paper on Thursday to officially become a full-time first-team player.
"It's his first professional contract, for three years," Red Devils press officer Christian Gruber told MLSsoccer.com. "I think both parties can be happy. For Andrew, he has made a big step. For the club, maybe he can help us get back to the Bundesliga next season."
The 22-year-old, Bamberg-born target man has a goal in six Bundesliga matches to date. Wooten also tallied 20 times in 24 games for Kaiserslautern II this term, finishing second in the Regionalliga West scoring chart.
