American Exports: Dempsey, Fulham win at Liverpool
AMSTERDAM — A trio of US internationals clocked in across the pond on Tuesday, with Clint Dempsey and Fulham scoring their first-ever win at Liverpool in a 1-0 decision.
"Deuce" was in fine form, but came up empty on three second-half scoring chances. He nodded a corner kick wide shortly after intermission, was denied in alone on the 'keeper near the hour mark and saw his quick flick smothered after a poor Reds back pass granted him a free shot near time.
The win, Fulham's fourth in the last six league games, pulled them level on points with eighth-place Liverpool.
Elsewhere, Tim Howard was beaten by a deflected Cameron Jerome strike in the 70th minute as Everton settled for a 1-1 draw at Stoke City. The USMNT No. 1 made two saves and several strong crowd punches to stay unbeaten in seven EPL games.
In Serie A action, Michael Bradley put in another strong showing as Chievo hosted a water-logged 0-0 draw with AS Roma.
The midfielder tested the away netminder with a drive from distance early in the second half, but the Flying Donkeys only managed two shots on target and their goal drought extended to 489 minutes. Winless in five, Chievo dropped to 12th place.
