Revolution top Galaxy in Desert Diamond Cup opener
New England Revolution 3, LA Galaxy 2
A late goal from trialist Jeremiah White handed the Revolution a 3-2 victory over the LA Galaxy in the opening match of the 2012 Desert Diamond Cup. The 29-year-old journeyman ran onto a smooth pass from rookie Alex Purdie and beat LA 'keeper Josh Saunders from close range to seal the win.
The Revolution took the lead twice earlier in the match, beginning with Benny Feilhaber's lovely bicycle kick in the 2nd minute. A busy 10 minutes midway through the first half began with returned Galaxy striker Edson Buddle equalizing with a header from a David Beckham cross in the 31st minute. The Revs then retook the lead in the 36th minute through John Lozano on a corner kick, and Mike Magee drew LA level again in the 39th minute when his shot deflected off defender Darrius Barnes and past wrong-footed goalkeeper Matt Reis.
