Gringo Report: Torres injured, could miss America clash

GUADALAJARA, Mexico — José Francisco Torres was forced to leave Pachuca's training session early on Wednesday with a sprained ankle and could miss Sunday's trip to the Estadio Azteca to face Club América.

The US national team midfielder is set to have tests on Thursday to ascertain the seriousness of the problem.

“It was an ankle sprain due to contact and a twist during training,” Pachuca coach Efraín Flores told La Afición. “I hope it isn't very serious and that [Thursday or Friday], he'll be able to train the same as his teammates. I hope he's ready for Sunday; they are games that everyone wants to play.”

Torres has been a vital cog for Pachuca this season, playing every single minute of their six games so far and helping them to an undefeated start to the Clausura 2012 season.

Pachuca are likely to make a statement on Torres' situation either on Thursday or Friday, and with the US squad to face Italy on Feb. 29 to be announced soon, US officials are sure to be taking a keen interest in the outcome.
