Chivas USA sign Ecuadorian sensation Miller Bolanos

The rebuild continues for Chivas USA, and this time, it was an attacking piece Robin Fraser added to the puzzle.

On Wednesday, the Rojiblancos announced the acquisition of Ecuadorian attacking midfielder Miller Bolaños, a 21-year-old playmaker with a penchant for scoring.

“Miller is an exciting young attacking player,” head coach Fraser said in a club statement. “He’s a good passer, good finisher and good at running at people. Definitely a special attacking talent and we certainly look forward to having him.”

Bolaños comes to Chivas USA from Ecuadorian Serie A side LDU Quito, where he played 93 matches (65 starts) and scored 22 goals, including scored the club’s historic 2,500th goal back in August 29, 2009. He was also a key member of the squad that won the 2009 Copa Sudamericana in an upset over Brazilian giants Fluminense in the finals.

Aside from playing behind the strikers, Bolaños can also play as a winger, giving Fraser & Co. some extra depth.

“He is a versatile player that was sought out by other international clubs,” said Chivas USA general manager Jose Domene in a statement. “He really wanted to play here and we got it done. He will be a great addition to Chivas USA because he is a different type of player that is not afraid to take on people. Miller has a great shot and can play as a winger, attacking mid and second forward.”

Bolaños becomes the second Ecuadorian signing this offseason for the Goats, who in December acquired Ecuadorian international Oswaldo Minda from SD Quito.

Bolaños will join the Chivas pending receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa. Per league and club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
