AMSTERDAM — A handful of Americans suited up overseas on Sunday afternoon, with Maurice Edu expertly teeing up the winner and Carlos Bocanegra wearing the armband as Rangers eased into the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a 4-0 victory at second flight Arbroath.

The midfielder sent David Healy in with a seeing-eye slip pass in the 17th minute and was also the intended recipient of the cross turned in for an own goal just four minutes later. Meanwhile, Bocanegra has now acted as winning captain at least once in all four of his European club outposts.

Turning to Serie A, Michael Bradley went the distance for the 14th straight time for Chievo in a tough 2-0 loss at AS Roma decided by a pair of spot kicks. The US international, who drew transfer glances from the Giallorossi last summer, worked a solid shift as a stay-at-home central midfielder.

Over in the FA Cup, Danny Potts and West Ham United also paid the penalty near time of a 1-0 ouster defeat at Sheffield Wednesday. The young left back had a busy, largely positive day — including a yellow card, two near-assists, getting beat for an early Owls breakaway and a big clearance off his line.
