NEW YORK – Add Collen Warner’s name to the list of MLS players keeping sharp across the Atlantic this offseason.

The Montreal Impact midfielder, who the club picked up in the Expansion Draft from Real Salt Lake, embarked Wednesday on a 10-day training stint with Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

However, Impact supporters have nothing to worry about for the time being. Warner’s agent, Kevin Legg, said via phone that his client was not on trial and was simply in Brighton to prepare for the upcoming MLS season, while also getting a taste of the English game.

Warner, 23, made 24 appearances (15 starts) for Jason Kreis and RSL in 2011 and recorded five assists during his second season as a professional. Montreal manager Jesse Marsch chose the former University of Portland product over veteran Ned Grabavoy among other unprotected players on the RSL roster during the Expansion Draft in November.

Former Uruguay international and Premier League veteran Gus Poyet manages Brighton, who won League One in 2010-11 to earn promotion to the Championship.
