AMSTERDAM — Philadelphia Union playmaker Freddy Adu will begin a week-long visit to La Liga outit Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, MLSsoccer.com has confirmed.

The US international's agent, Richard Motzkin, confirmed the details on Tuesday. Adu was originally scheduled to make the trip over in mid-December, but a call-up to the recent Olympic camp in Florida delayed his plans.

While Adu's visit is not being considered a trial, sources indicated to MLSsoccer.com that Rayo have been admiring Adu for some time now. He scored against the Madrid-based side in a friendly draw while with Real Salt Lake in 2007. Back in La Liga this season after spending seven years a league below, Kasey Keller's former employers are currently in 16th place, a point above the drop zone.

Adu arrived to Philadelphia from Benfica this past summer, notching two goals and an assist in 13 contests, including the playoffs. With earlier stints at D.C. United and Real Salt Lake to his credit, the attacker has 14 goals and 20 assists in 109 career MLS regular-season matches.
