Recap: Big three shine as Galaxy roll over Philippines
When you have the big three that the LA Galaxy have, you've already got a leg up. Or three legs.
The DP trio of David Beckham, Robbie Keane, and Landon Donovan provided the spark and the hammer on Saturday against the Philippine national team in a 6-1 victory in Manila.
Beckham and Keane both scored for the Galaxy, as did Mike Magee of a pinpoint ball from Donovan. Adam Cristman and veteran Gregg Berhalter finished out the scoring for the MLS Cup champions.
Phil Younghusband notched the Philippines' lone goal.
The Philippines were without several regular internationals, including goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and injured captain Aly Borromeo, but the Galaxy didn't take any pity on their hosts. Beckham struck the opener in the 20th minute, with Magee finishing a lovely assist from Donovan in the 38th.
Younghusband pulled one back just a minute later to make it close heading into the halftime break. But that was as close as it would get.
Keane, whose goal gave LA the win against the Indonesian national selection on Wednesday, pounced on a loose ball in the 47th minute and for all intents and purposes put the game away. Cristman headed in his first goal in the 62nd, Berhalter struck a penalty in the 81st, and Cristman topped it all off with one more late goal.
The Galaxy remain unbeaten on their Asia Pacific Tour, and next travel to Australia to take on the Melbourne Victory on Tuesday, December 6.
