Morfaw and Elmasri leave Whitecaps after camp
Incoming Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie wanted to start molding his squad from the get-go, and on Monday, that process officially began.
The Whitecaps announced that midfielder Alexandre Morfaw has been waived and defender Omar Elmasri’s loan spell will not be renewed.
Morfaw (above right) had been a member of the Whitecaps since joining the squad midway through their 2010 USSF Division-2 campaign, after previously playing for Swedish side Bodens BK. The Cameroonian made six appearances during that season, and appeared twice in Vancouver’s 2011 MLS campaign.
The 24-year-old appeared in nine MLS Reserve League games in 2011 and also played 12 times for the Whitecaps FC Residency in the USL Premier Development League.
Elmasri leaves Vancouver after joining in August on loan from Mexican Primera División side Tigres UANL. The Los Angeles-area native was previously a member of Chivas USA’s U-18 side and appeared in three MLS Reserve League matches and 12 games for the residency program.
The defender returns to his parent club in Mexico as new Vancouver head coach Martin Rennie begins to shape his squad for the coming 2012 MLS season.
