Gringo Report: Gomez fit, available for Monterrey encounter
GUADALAJARA, Mexico — Herculez Gomez is back for Estudiantes Tecos' home game against Monterrey on Friday (9 pm ET, Galavisión) after missing his team's 2-0 victory over Morelia last weekend.
The World Cup veteran has recovered from a slight quad strain and is available should coach Raúl Arias select him, Estudiantes press officer Zahira García confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Thursday.
Gomez confirmed his readiness to play on his Twitter account Wednesday, writing: “Can't wait for Friday, I want to play so bad. I'm feeling good, ready.”
The 29-year-old striker has had a stop-start season so far with Estudiantes and, despite being the team's top scorer with four goals, has mainly been limited to appearances from the bench since Arias took over from José Luis “Chelis” Sánchez in early August.
The team is currently in ninth place in the Apertura table, two points off a playoff spot, but with just one win in five home games.
