Beckerman, Dempsey join up with US for Belgium match
Jurgen Klinsmann will have to tweak his lineup for his first match in charge outside the United States.
After Friday’s 1-0 loss to Costa Rica, twenty players traveled to Brussels for Tuesday’s friendly with Belgium (2:30 pm ET, ESPN), and there are several changes from the group in camp last week.
Kyle Beckerman, who scored a stunning long-range goal for Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, joins the squad in Europe. He started his last game with the US, going 90 minutes in last month’s 1-1 draw with Mexico in Klinsmann’s coaching debut.
Fulham striker Clint Dempsey, who has not played with the US since Klinsmann took over, and Hannover defender Steve Cherundolo have also joined the squad in Brussels.
Meanwhile, LA’s Landon Donovan, Sporting’s Teal Bunbury, D.C. United’s Chris Pontius, and Nurnburg’s Fabian Johnson have all returned to their clubs. Donovan and Bunbury are eligible when their sides meet in Kansas City on Monday (6 pm ET, Fox Soccer).
