There’s no slowing Olivier Occean down.

The Canadian international striker was a force for his old club, Kickers Offenbach, in the German 3.Liga last season, scoring 16 times in 30 league appearances. His attacking prowess was rewarded with a move up the ladder to the 2.Bundesliga with SpVgg Greuther Fürth, who took a chance on the well-traveled Canuck by giving him a three-year deal.

It didn’t take long for Occean to acclimate to the higher level of play. After going scoreless in the opening match of the 2011-12 campaign, Occean took full advantage of an overwhelmed Union Berlin side to score twice in Greuther Fürth’s 4-0 romp on Saturday. The 29-year-old struck in the 26th and 50th minute of play, leading his new side to their first win of the season.

The other Canadian in the German second tier, Adam Straith, saw time off the bench for Energie Cottbus over the weekend. Straith subbed in at central defense just before halftime and helped his club hang on for a 2-1 win at MSV Duisburg.

Up in Finland, a pair of Canucks squared off as Tomer Chencinski’s VPS drew Frank Jonke’s Inter Turku 3-3 in Veikkausliiga play. Chencinski started in goal for TPS while Jonke played the final half hour for Inter Turku.

On Sunday, Mason Trafford earned his first Veikkausliiga start in a few weeks, and responded by scoring IFK Mariehamn’s second goal in a 2-2 draw with KuPS. Compatriot Luca Bellisomo also featured in the match, coming on in the 74th minute.

Also getting on the score sheet in the Finnish top flight was Riley O’Neill. The striker opened the scoring for his side MyPa, who prevailed 2-0 over ROPS on Monday night. The win allowed MyPa to leapfrog two clubs into eighth place in the league.

In nearby Denmark, Issey Nakajima-Farran started and played 87 minutes in the midfield for AC Horsens in a 1-1 draw at FC Nordsjælland. Horsens are at the top of the Danish Superliga with four points after two rounds of play.
