Despite reports, no MLS offers to French striker Cissé

AMSTERDAM — Panathinaikos star striker Djibril Cissé has admitted he is interested in playing in MLS, but his agent has shot down recent European reports that several offers have actually come in from MLS clubs.

Articles out of France, Greece and Italy have linked the colorful forward with the New England Revolution and Seattle Sounders, as well as with Serie A side Lazio.

"There has been no official approach from these clubs," Cissé's agent Pavlos Topidis told MLSsoccer.com. "Interest is one thing, an approach is something different. I don't know about the interest."

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com, the Revolution denied that they had made any offer to Cissé.

The Sounders said in a statement: “While we may have an interest in a player of Cissé’s quality, we are always searching for players who can make us stronger. That said, we are always evaluating multiple players at various positions.”

Cissé’s representative did confirm that playing in the United States was on his client's career wishlist.

"That is something he would like to do," affirmed Topidis.

While Cissé may have a desire to come to MLS at some point, he told Italy’s Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday that he was “fascinated” by the prospect of suiting up for Lazio in Serie A.

The 29-year-old is coming off consecutive Greek Golden Boot seasons of more than 20 goals, a mark he has hit four times over his career. Cissé also claimed the Ligue 1 top-gun honors at Auxerre in 2004 with a personal-best 26 strikes. Having also spent time with Liverpool, Olympique Marseille and Sunderland, Cissé has bagged 164 career goals in 330 league matches.
