Peterson hoping to be back in lineup when TFC face Galaxy

TORONTO — Jacob Peterson hopes this is the weekend he gets back into action.

After playing 912 minutes in Toronto FC's first 11 games of the season, the midfielder has missed the past three with a hamstring injury. Now, after completing two training sessions this week, he appears ready for Saturday’s match against the LA Galaxy.

“It’s disappointing when you get hurt — especially a muscle strain,” Peterson said. “You feel like you let the team down. I feel like those are injuries that can be prevented and be avoided — just maybe take care of the body a little better."

The 25-year-old midfielder missed the 0-0 away draw with his former team, the Colorado Rapids, the 6-2 home loss to Philadelphia and the 0-0 home draw with Kansas City. Hamstring injuries can linger, so he was held out last weekend even though he felt that he could play.

“You can’t rush them,” he said. “I really wanted to play last weekend."

The Galaxy will be difficult opponents — even without Landon Donovan, who is with the US team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. LA have a league-high 30 points from 16 games. Conversely, Toronto FC have 13 points from 14 games and are still searching for the first road win of the season.

“They’ve got good players — not just Landon, who is the best player in the league, in my opinion," Peterson said. "They’ve got good weapons and they’ve got good forwards.

“They’ve got [former TFC forward] Chad Barrett who we know really well and has had some success this year with them [three goals, three assists]. They’re dangerous. We’ve to go there and stick with our game plan the entire game, play our game.”
