AMSTERDAM — Maurice Edu became the first American to three-peat in Europe after Rangers clinched their 54th Scottish crown with a 5-1 closing day cruise at Kilmarnock.

The US midfielder went all 90 minutes Sunday as the Light Blues edged arch rivals Celtic to the title by a single point.

Next door in the English Premier League, Brad Friedel made five saves and Michael Bradley pitched in 10 solid minutes to help Aston Villa score a 2-1 victory at Arsenal. The 2002 World Cup hero, who also swatted away a bushel of danger crosses, made his best stop of the day on Robin van Persie just after the break.

Elsewhere, Clint Dempsey missed an early sitter high, but it was of little consequence in Fulham's 2-0 win at Birmingham City.

Jonathan Spector made way with his team up in the 62nd minute, but West Ham eventually fell 3-2 at Wigan to seal a last place relegation.

Over in the Eredivisie, an injured Oguchi Onyewu watched on as FC Twente surrendered the Dutch crown to Ajax with a 3-1 final day loss in Amsterdam.

Across the channel in Ligue 1, Carlos Bocanegra drew a late yellow card against his old employers as Saint-Étienne dropped a 2-1 home decision to Rennes.

Turkish Süper Lig action saw Jozy Altidore on for the final quarter hour of Bursaspor's 3-0 win at Kasimpasa.

One level down in the Bank Asya 1.Lig, Freddy Adu put in a decent full shift as Rizespor clinched fourth place and a promotion playoff berth with a 2-1 victory at league champs Samsunspor.

In Danish SAS Liga play, Clarence Goodson and Brøndby are hanging onto very slim Champions League hopes after suffering a tough 1-0 loss at FC Midtjylland.

Michael Parkhurst returned to the starting lineup with 90 minutes as FC Nordsjælland stayed above the trap door with a 3-2 win over Silkeborg.

Heading to the Swedish Allsvenskan, Alejandro Bedoya saw yellow in Örebro's 2-1 defeat at holders Malmö FF.

Gale Agbossoumonde, meanwhile, went the full route as Djurgårdens climbed out of the cellar with a 0-0 draw at Gefle.
