Former US national team and MLS All-Star goalkeeper Tim Howard has been named as the sporting director at USL League Championship side Memphis 901 FC, the club announced this week.

Howard has already been a part-owner at the club since its inception in 2018. Memphis began USL League Championship play in 2019.

A native of central New Jersey, Howard began his MLS career with the NY/NJ MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) in 1998, departed for a long and storied English career with Manchester United and Everton in 2003, and then returned to MLS with the Colorado Rapids in 2016 before retiring at the end of the 2019 season.

Internationally, he is one of only three Americans to be a No. 1 goalkeeper at multiple World Cups (2010, 2014), along with Tony Meola (1990, 1994) and Kasey Keller (1998, 2006).
