Soccer Kicks Cancer - Men's Health Awareness

Movember Background

Major League Soccer and clubs throughout the League grow ‘Mo’s (moustaches) during the month of November  to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. To date, globally more than 3 million people have participated, raising $446 million USD.

Why Men's Health? 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and 1 in 6 American men and 1 in 7 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Rates of prostate cancer cases in men are comparable to the rates of breast cancer cases in women.

Major League Soccer players, supporters, staff and partners are clean-shaven on November 1st and grow their moustaches throughout the month. Participants documented progress on their ‘MoSpace pages as part of the MLS Movember Network, on the Movember website. Women participated by becoming ‘Mo Sistas' and created their own 'MoSpaces to support the men they love.

In 2011, the first year of a League-wide Movember campaign, players, supporters and staff throughout the League joined together to raise approximately $45,000. In 2012, we raised $57,000 to support Movember.  Last year, the MLS Network raised $98,772 to assist in the fight against prostate and testicular cancer.
