GOAL: Kandji puts Red Bulls up
CHANCE: Henry misses wide
GOAL: Richards from distance
CHANCE: Adebayor comes up empty
GOAL: Jô pulls Man City even
HARRISON, N.J. – The game meant little on paper, with both Manchester City and the New York Red Bulls basically out of the running for the title of the Barclays New York Challenge.
But the Red Bulls impressed nonetheless on Sunday, using goals from Dane Richards and Macoumba Kandji to topple the visiting EPL side 2-1 in the tournament finale at Red Bull Arena.
The game-winner belonged to Richards, who hit a gorgeous shot from the right edge of the box in the 70th minute that caromed off the crossbar and into the back of the net. Kandji picked up the assist by laying the ball off to Richards, who scored a similar goal in the Red Bull Arena opener in March against Brazilian side Santos.
The Red Bulls won that match too, and upped their mark to 3-2 this season at Red Bull Arena against international competition with the win over Manchester City.

Kandji put the Red Bulls ahead in the seventh minute. Richards sped past Manchester City’s left back Wayne Bridge, turning the corner on the English international before drifting a cross to Kandji, who powered a shot into the back of the net in front of the South Ward supporters end.
Manchester City equalized in the 55th minute, when Jô hammered in a close-range effort in front of goal. The goal marked the second time in four days that New York relinquished a halftime lead to an English Premier League side.
But then came Richards’ heroics, which helped the Red Bulls earn a third-place finish in the tournament, behind runner-up Tottenham and champion Sporting.
Newly-signed Designated Player Thierry Henry picked up his second start in as many matches for the Red Bulls, but for the second consecutive occasion, left the match at the half. His best scoring chance came in the 21st minute, when he threaded through the Manchester City defense and fired a shot past goalkeeper Joe Hart that whistled just inches wide of goal.
