FRISCO – The Houston Dynamo defeated the New England Revolution 4-3 on penalty kicks to earn their first-ever MLS Cup in front of 22,427 fans at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.

In one of the most exciting title bouts in MLS Cup history, the Dynamo needed late-game heroics from forward Brian Ching to send the match into PK’s, the first ever shootout in the championship game.

After a goalless 90 minutes, New England’s Taylor Twellman gave the Revolution a 1-0 lead in the 113th minute after he rocketed a left-footed shot past the outstretched arms of Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad.

Less than a minute later, on the ensuing possession from the kickoff, Brian Ching headed home a cross from six yards out to level the game at 1-1.

Ching, who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, then connected in the fifth round of penalties to put Houston up 4-3, before New England’s Jay Heaps had his attempt denied by a diving Onstad to clinch the title for the Dynamo.
