Feb. 2-3 - The MetroStars acquire six new players at the supplemental and college drafts in Florida, including midfielder Brian Kelly of Duke University.

March 6 - The MetroStars announce plans for a new, state-of-the-art, modular grass field for Giants Stadium.

May 9 - The San Jose Clash defeat the MetroStars, 1-0, in the first game played on the new modular grass field.

May 14 - The MetroStars play host to their first national team, as they welcome Colombia to Giants Stadium. Colombia wins 2-0.

July 30 - MetroStars sign World Cup winner Brazilian sweeper Branco.

Sept. 9 - Midfield ace Roberto Donadoni accepts an offer to return to A.C. Milan.

Sept. 25 - MetroStars lose to the Columbus Crew, 1-0, to miss the playoffs.
