Current Roster

The Columbus Crew are one of the ten charter clubs which formed MLS, as they joined the league during its inception in 1996. The side has been one of the standout leaders in helping to develop soccer in the US and the Columbus Crew Stadium became the first soccer specific stadium in the US on its completion in 1999.

The Crew played their first three seasons at the 102,000 capacity Ohio Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University. However their move to their own stadium saw an upsurge in fan numbers, as the Crew became big news in the City of Columbus.

The team’s name was chosen after a city wide competition to come up with a franchise name and the club’s colors have been black and gold since it was founded in 1994. The club’s logo consists of three men wearing construction helmets in a shield shape with “Crew” written above it. This reflects the hard working, blue-collar image the city of Columbus has and is unique in MLS as it’s the only badge to include people in the design. The kit colors are primarily yellow with black trim and they have adopted the nickname of the “canary kits” by many members of the Crew faithful.

The Crew are one of the most decorated clubs in MLS history, having won five trophies since 1996. They clinched their first MLS Cup in 2008, adding to their Supporters’ Shield titles won in 2004, 2008 and 2009. They have also won the US Open Cup in 2002 and have reached the final of the famous knockout tournament in 1998 and 2010.
