January 14, 2010: Chivas USA selects University of Akron midfielder Blair Gavin with its first pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chivas USA also selects midfielder Ben Zemanski, also from the University of Akron, in the third round as the 47th overall pick.
January 23, 2010: Chivas USA head coach Martin Vasquez names Carlos Juarez, Nick Theslof and Daniel Gonzalez as part of the team’s coaching staff. Juárez joins Carlos Llamosa as Assistant Coach, while Theslof is named Technical Director and Gonzalez is named Goalkeeper Coach.
February 1, 2010: Chivas USA acquires Salvadoran midfielder Osael Romero on loan from Vista Hermosa in El Salvador.
February 5, 2010: Chivas USA defender and MLS original Jesse Marsch announces his retirement as a player and will join former Chivas USA Head Coach Bob Bradley as Assistant Coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team.
March 10, 2010: Chivas USA midfielder Sasha Victorine announces his retirement after ten seasons in Major League Soccer.
March 11, 2010: Chivas USA signs Costa Rican International defender Michael Umaña.
March 26, 2010: Chivas USA opens the club’s sixth Major League Soccer season with a 0-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids in The Home Depot Center.
April 6, 2010: Chivas USA announced the acquisition of defender Darío Delgado, a center back who has made five appearances for the Costa Rica National Team, on loan from Puntarenas F.C. in Costa Rica.
June 25, 2010: Chivas USA announced that midfielder Paulo Nagamura re-signed with the club following a six-month stint with Mexican First Division club Tigres UANL.
June 28, 2010: Chivas USA captain Jonathan Bornstein and the rest of the United States National Team finished their participation in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, earning a 1-1-2 record (W-L-T) and falling in the round of 16. Bornstein came into the team for its final group stage match, starting in a dramatic victory over Algeria, and also played well in the team’s next match, a 2-1 extra time loss to Ghana.
July 7, 2010: Chivas USA signed Venezuelan International forward Giancarlo Maldonado, a proven goalscorer in the Mexican First Division and with the Venezuelan National Team.
July 14, 2010: Chivas USA signed playmaking Mexican midfielder Rodolfo Espinoza, a veteran of the Mexican First Division, from Universitario in Peru.
July 19, 2010: Major League Soccer announced that Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein was selected to the 2010 MLS All-Star Team, earning the honor for the fourth consecutive season.
July 21, 2010: Chivas USA acquired Sal Zizzo, a midfielder with experience in Europe and with the United States National Team, in a weighted lottery.
August 25, 2010: Chivas USA announced the signing of former Chivas USA U-18 Team member Bryan de la Fuente of Bell, Calif., as a Home Grown Player. De la Fuente, 18, has played in the Chivas USA Youth System for the past three years, and has experience with the United States Under-20 National Team and in the Chivas de Guadalajara youth teams.
September 14, 2010: Chivas USA captured a 4-2 win on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw against Chivas de Guadalajara in the second ChivaClásico, held at PETCO Park in San Diego.
October 23, 2010: Chivas USA names Team Award Winners: Defender of the Year- Michael Umaña, Humanitarian of the Year- Michael Lahoud, Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot- Justin Braun, Claudio Suárez Award- Jonathan Bornstein.
October 27, 2010: Chivas USA decides not to renew Martin Vasquez’ Head Coach contract for the upcoming 2011 season. The club will begin search for the team’s next Head Coach.
November 2, 2010: Chivas USA announced that President and CEO Shawn Hunter leaves his post with the club after three years with the Red-and-White.
November 24, 2010: Chivas USA acquires Venezuelan International and MLS veteran Alejandro Moreno during 2010 MLS Expansion Draft.
December 15, 2010: Chivas USA acquired forward Tristan Bowen, a native of Van Nuys, in a trade with the LA Galaxy and who has played for the United States U-18 and U-20 National Teams.
December 14, 2010: Chivas USA announced that the Director of Soccer Operations Stephen Hamilton leaves his post with the club, and Jose Domene is named the club’s Interim General Manager.
December 15, 2010: Chivas USA selected defender Jimmy Conrad, a UCLA alum and SoCal native with 12 years of MLS experience and 28 caps with the United States National Team, in the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
