A new full-time head coach may be ahead for the Canadian national team. But it won't happen in time for next month's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The Canadian Soccer Association confirmed in an e-mail to MLSsoccer.com on Thursday that whoever coaches the team in July’s tournament will be on an interim assignment, as has been the case since Stephen Hart departed the full-time job last October.

Gerry Dobson of Rogers Sportsnet said in a tweet on Monday that he expects an announcement to be made next week regarding the interim coach.

In an interview with MLSsoccer.com last November, CSA general secretary Peter Montopoli said that he would like to have a new permanent head coach in place in time for the Gold Cup. However, the search is clearly taking longer than anticipated.

In five friendlies in 2013, the team is winless and has been coached three times by FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller and twice by CSA technical director Tony Fonseca.

The team begins a 10-day camp in Oxnard, Calif., on June 26 and is expected to have finalized the 23-man roster in time for the start of camp. Canada kick off the tournament against Martinique in the Gold Cup’s opening game on July 7 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
