Teal Bunbury and Juan Agudelo set high stakes in Twitter battle
Teal Bunbury and Juan Agudelo might be close friends, but in April, they were sworn enemies on Twitter.
The Sporting Kansas City striker and his counterpart from the New York Red Bulls kicked off an interesting online challenge ahead of the teams’ matchup at Red Bull Arena, each looking to one-up the other for the most Twitter followers before kickoff.
The rules might have been simple, but the stakes were serious. The loser had to wear the winner’s jersey for an entire day while tweeting photos to all their followers to prove they’ve gone through with their end of the tough-luck bargain.
To all my new followers, tell your followers to #followme @juanagudelo17 #TeamAgudelo, So TealBunB has to wear my jersey for day.#Winning

Both athletes called in the Twitter big guns. Agudelo, who led for much of the campaign, called in his fellow Red Bull athletes, including US Olympic gold medalist Shaun White. Bunbury made a late surge, however, after leaning on NFL wide receiver and honorary Sporting Kansas City team member Chad Ochocinco to help him with the cause.
In the end, Bunbury was the victor.
Thanks to everyone for your support during this twitter battle. I'm proud to inform you that #TeamBunbury was the victory. Much love to all!
