Carlos Valdes had a night to remember forever. Not only he played in the MLS All-Star Game, but he was also the main attraction for a while in the game. As Philadelphia Union's captain playing at PPL Park, the Colombian defender was the person who fueled the home fans when he joined the game in the 33rd minute.

"It was is so beautiful to have such support from the fans," Valdes told after the game. "I want to thank them, first God and then all the people who have supported me since I first arrived here. It feels like home."

CHESTER, Pa.

CHESTER, Pa. – The scenario was something out of Martin Rennie’s nightmares.

With a match looming at Real Salt Lake on Friday (9 pm ET, watch LIVE online), The Vancouver Whitecaps head coach surely would have liked to see center back Jay DeMerit coast through at most 45 minutes during Wednesday night’s AT&T MLS All-Star game against Chelsea at PPL Park.

Enough to break a sweat and stretch his legs, but certainly nothing approaching a full shift.

He thanked him in the form of one of the most dramatic goals in All-Star history, netting the game-winner in stoppage time to propel the MLS All-Stars to a thrilling 3-2 win over Chelsea FC at PPL Park.

“That’s what coach brought me here for,” Johnson said in the postgame press conference. “I’m just trying to pay him back for selecting me to the team.”

PHILADELPHIA — Another All-Star Game, and another loss for Chelsea FC.

After the 1-0 setback in 2006 on a solitary goal by Dwayne De Rosario, which left José Mourinho bitter at the time, the 2012 defeat wasn't any easier to digest for Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo.

CHESTER, Pa. – Two games against the MLS All-Stars, two defeats for Chelsea.

And while Wednesday night’s 3-2 loss was certainly an exhibition match for the reigning European champions, they still left PPL Park giving out compliments to their hosts – and several of them think this year’s MLS All-Star team was far, far better than the one they lost to 1-0 six years ago.

Recap: EJ's injury-time goal lifts All-Stars past Chelsea

CHESTER, Pa. – The highlights of Eddie Johnson’s MLS resurrection just keep getting better.

The Seattle Sounders striker scored a goal off a deflection in the first minute of second-half stoppage time of the AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, giving MLS a dramatic 3-2 win over visiting Chelsea FC at PPL Park and snapping the All-Stars’ two-game losing streak in the annual summer showcase.

Halftime analysis from Chelsea TV: "It feels quite like an exhibition, doesn't it?"

Yes, yes it does.

The MLS All-Star Game is great for the pomp and pagaentry, for the chance to see the guys who are ostensibly the league's best gathered in one spot, and for the chance to heckle one European superstar or another (this year's target, courtesy of the Sons of Ben, appeared to be Frank Lampard. Bold choice that didn't quite work out).
