Victor Balanzar (Defender - 17 years old - Anaheim, CA)
A dynamic right full back, Victor Balanzar made an impact on the coaching staff during the tryouts with his ability to control the right wing and his recovery on tight spaces. Born in Long Beach and raised in Anaheim, California, he claims not to have a favorite team. Victor is a player that strongly believes in practice and dedication to succeed.
Heriberto Becerra (Goalkeeper - 17 years old - Fontana, CA)
Local LA Galaxy winner of Allstate “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper award – El Portero Allstate, Heriberto Becerra, will face two other goalkeepers for the opportunity to win the national title. The outspoken, confident and quick decision maker left a mark during the tryouts in Los Angeles. Becerra, who began to play soccer at the age of four, is grateful for this opportunity through Sueño MLS. The A.B. Miller High School student became a goalkeeper by mistake when his team was in need of a goalkeeper; from that day forward he hasn’t left the goal. The Mexican-American who is the youngest of three, is a fan of Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas and of LA Galaxy.
Erick Bermudez (Midfielder – 16 years-old – South Gate, California)
Bermudez is a skillful attacking midfielder who is able to use both feet with equal ease and quickness. Born in Whittier, California and now residing in South Gate the 16-year-old wants to become the next Sueño MLS winner. His soccer development began at the age of eight when his father enrolled him in a soccer team as a hobby. The Mexican-American’s favorite teams include Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, and his favorite players are Cristiano Ronaldo and Landon Donovan.
Josue Soto (Midfielder – 17 years old – Perris, California)
Josue Soto, a left footed forward impressed the coaches during the tryouts with his great attacking techniques and his ability to work in tight spaces. The Perris, California native hails from a Mexican soccer family and hopes to be an inspiration to his younger brother who also plays soccer. A loyal Pumas UNAM fan and the middle child out of three boys, Soto describes Andres Iniesta from FC Barcelona as his favorite player.
Joshua Varon (Midfielder - 16 years-old –Bakersfield, California)
A calm left midfielder, Joshua Varon kept great ball possession and was competitive in the one-on-one challenges during the tryouts. Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, the 16 year-old was unstoppable during the tryouts which easily caught the attention of the coaches. Varon, who is of Mexican and Colombian heritage, admires Brazil’s Neymar and LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan. The youngest of three is also a fan of Germany’s Bayern Munich and follows the Seattle Sounders FC in MLS.
Edgar Villalpando (Midfielder – 16 years old – Wilmington, California)
Edgar Villalpando is a powerful forward with an eye for passing and distribution who scored five goals during the Sueño MLS tryouts in Los Angeles. The Mexican-American from Wilmington, California was inspired to play soccer at a young age by his father. Villalpando currently follows Chivas USA, where his cousin Carlos Alvarez plays. The 16-year-old is a fan of FC Barcelona and of the Argentine forward Lionel Messi. Villalpando dreams of one day becoming a great player like Messi.
Brayan Arreola (Midfielder - 17 years old - Denver, CO)
Like goalkeeper Daniel Ontiveros, Brayan Arreola also attends Adams City High School, just down the road from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Arreola moved to the United States from Mexico when he was five years old and plays for the club team Tigres in Denver. He has attended Rapids Academy tryouts in the past and is eager for the opportunity to impress the club’s scouts and get a chance to train with the team as Arreola works to win Sueño MLS
Erik Barragan(Defender – 15 years-old – Garden City, KS)
One of six players and teammates who made the 330 mile drive from Garden City, KS for Sueño MLS, Erik Barragan is participating in the competition for a second straight year, having tried out in Los Angeles in 2012. A sophomore at Garden City High School, Barragan also plays club soccer for Garden City Manchester
Juan Hernandez (Midfielder – 14 years old – Evans, CO)
Fighting through a strained hamstring suffered two weeks ago, Juan Hernandez became the youngest of the Sueño MLS hopefuls to make it to the National Finals. A player for Poudre High School in Fort Collins, an hour north of Denver, Hernandez plays for the Northern Colorado Soccer Club “Bootleggers” and lists Cristiano Ronaldo as his favorite player.
Brian Loaiza (Midfielder – 16 years old – Royal Palm beach, FL)
If making the trip from Florida wasn’t far enough, Brian Loaiza has actually called Colombia home for the last several months, where he has trained with Deportivo Cali. A defensive midfielder, Loaiza has been working on his high school education online while gaining experience abroad, and saw Carlos Valderrama’s invitation to participate in Sueño MLS while he was back in the States playing in the Florida State Cup with FC Florida. Loaiza registered for the Denver event after discovering that D.C. United’s tryout had already filled up.
Daniel Ontiveros (Goalkeeper - 17 years-old –Denver, CO)
Local Colorado Rapids winner of Allstate “Good Hands ®” top goalkeeper award – El Portero Allstate. Daniel Ontiveros is looking to become Sueño MLS’ Portero Allstate this year. He has experience with several club teams from the Denver area, including the Colorado Rapids Academy. He currently plays for Longmont United Soccer Academy north of Denver, as well as Adams City High School in Commerce City, which is the nearest high school to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. In 2010, Ontiveros helped Chivas Guadalajara of Denver win the State Cup, and he was in net for the Colorado Rapids U-16 State Cup champion team in 2011.
Gilberto Tovar (Midfielder – 15 years old – Garden City, KS)
A right midfielder with excellent passing capabilities and vision of the field, Gilberto Tovar was named Most Valuable Player of GC Manchester, the club team he plays for in Kansas. Currently a freshman at Garden City High School, Tovar, of Mexican heritage, started playing soccer at the age of three, and names Xavi Hernandez from FC Barcelona as his favorite player and Chivas de Guadalajara as his favorite soccer team.
Luis Aranzazu (Goalkeeper – 17 years old – Pembroke Pines, FL)
Local D.C. United winner of Allstate “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper award – El Portero Allstate. A tall and skillful goalkeeper, the Pembroke Pines, FL resident will be competing for the national Allstate “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper award – El Portero Allstate in Los Angeles. Luis is the D.C. finalist who traveled the furthest to participate in the program. A native of Colombia, he dreams of becoming a professional soccer player, but before that, he wants to play college soccer and graduate from a four-year university. Luis’ idol is Nice’s David Ospina because he became a professional soccer player at the age of 17 for Atletico Nacional, which is also Luis’ favorite team.
Cristian Soto (Midfielder – 17 years-old – Indianapolis, IN)
Born in Durango, Mexico, Cristian is making his second Sueño MLS appearance after participating in Chicago Fire’s tryouts and making it to the National Finals in Texas in 2011. The center defensive midfielder for Indiana Fire, an elite academy team in Indiana, is a natural playmaker who is composed on the ball and has great vision of the game. Cristian started playing soccer at the age of six, and dreams of becoming a professional soccer player like his idol, FC Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez. A resident of Indianapolis, Cristian lists FC Barcelona and Chicago Fire as his favorite teams.
Elcor Castillo (Midfielder – 15 years old – Newport News, VA)
Elcor is a dynamic and technical young midfielder from Newport News, VA who was born in Panama and moved to the U.S. last year. In his short time as a resident of Virginia, Elcor was named MVP and goal scorer of his local club team, Newport News FC. The speedy player, who considers Brazil’s legend Ronaldo Nazario da Lima his favorite player, is a constant threat in the attack. Elcor started playing soccer at the age of three and currently attends Denbigh High School. He lists Real Madrid and D.C. United as his favorite soccer teams.
Alexander Soto (Midfielder – 14 years old – Elizabeth, NJ)
The speedy, center attacking midfielder is the youngest of the D.C. finalists at only 14 years old and will be fighting to become the next Sueño MLS winner at the finals in Los Angeles. Alexander’s idol is FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and his dream is to play for the U.S. Men’s National Team. His best soccer memory is the time when he represented the U.S. in an international soccer tournament in Colombia, his native country. A resident of New Jersey, Alexander’s favorite teams are FC Barcelona and New York Red Bulls. Amongst his long list of soccer accomplishments and championships, Alexander was named MVP of Palisades Park High School’s varsity team. Scouts describe him as an outstanding player with incredible technical skills who has an unbelievable ability to execute free kicks.
Brett LaBonte (Forward - 16 years-old –Frederick, MD)
Bret is a strong and physical player, who is good on the ball and has an unbelievably strong shot. He identifies Ronaldinho as his favorite player as he appreciates his style of play and always attempts to imitate his skills on the field. His idol is Samuel Eto’o, and he classifies him as the best African striker to ever play the game. Bret currently plays for the Maryland State Team in the Olympic Development program, and has travelled to Barcelona, the home of his favorite team FC Barcelona, to play an international tournament. He also participated in the State Championship with Urbana’s High School varsity soccer team after an undefeated season, where Bret headed-in the game-tying goal with six minutes left on the clock, and celebrated with an acrobatic somersault.
Bryan Argueta (Forward – 15 years old – Gaithersburg, MD)
Bryan is a skillful and technical player from Gaithersburg, Maryland, who dreams of playing professionally for either D.C. United or LA Galaxy. A native of El Salvador, the speedy left forward lists Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez as his favorite player because he never gives up on a ball. The Calverton Tornadoes attacker follows FC Barcelona and D.C. United and dreams of playing professionally with either of those teams.
