The livewire Brazilian striker was part of a mass substitution by head coach Jason Kreis midway through the second half, and combined with fellow regulars Chris Wingert and Fabian Espindola on the decisive play. Wingert's through ball found Espindola, whose cross was headed home past the otherwise flawless Jeremy Vuolo in net.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tony Tchani is ready to put an offseason of illness and mystery behind to show Crew fans why the club traded for him last summer.

The Cameroonian midfielder became ill on Dec. 5, the day he and teammate Dilly Duka were scheduled to leave for the Generation adidas tour of the Netherlands. Tchani did not make the trip.

Doctors were unable to diagnose the problem and Tchani still felt lethargic at the start of Crew camp in late January. His malaise continued into the Florida portion of the preseason and only recently has he felt better.

Luke Rodgers is still not among the New York Red Bulls' ranks as the team descends on Arizona for the second phase of their preseason, and Hans Backe says the team is still in the dark as to when they might be joined by one of their key performers from 2011.

In both cases, the message from the Philadelphia Union is clear: If you’re young and have a lot of potential, you will be rewarded with a new contract.

On Wednesday, the Union announced they had reached a long-term deal with the 21-year-old Williams, the club’s starting right back. The announcement comes about three weeks after Philadelphia exercised their option to retain the services of 20-year-old midfielder Torres, who had been on loan.
