RSL: Selected in the second round (17th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft on 1/18/08
The development of midfielder Alex Nimo is on pace to accelerate in 2009, this after the now 19-year-old learned the ins and outs of professional life during his rookie campaign last year. While not seeing any first-team action in MLS play in 2008, Nimo did get his chance to shine in each of the team's three international exhibitions last summer, including a 90-minute effort against Mexican champion Santos Laguna during which he registered his first professional goal, RSL's lone tally in a 4-1 Xango Cup '08 defeat. Nimo's prime opportunity and development came in MLS Reserve Division play, where the youngster started in 10 of 12 contests for the RSL Reserves. Nimo would blossom late in the campaign en route to a collecting a team-high four assists as part of an explosive attack that averaged over two-and-a-half goals each time out. The maturing playmaker and U.S. U-17 Bradenton Residency product hopes to have a much busier sophomore season both for the "Claret-and-Cobalt" and "Red, White & Blue," as a stint for the U.S. Under-20 National Team should be on his radar as the USA prepares to qualify for the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, taking place in Egypt this fall.
